Freshman guard Terquavion Smith connected on six 3-point shots on the way to 24 points as visiting North Carolina State avenged an earlier defeat, beating Louisville 79-63 on Wednesday night.
Jericole Hellems added five 3s as part of a 19-point outing for the Wolfpack (9-8, 2-4 Atlantic Coast Conference).
NC State's Dereon Seabron, who had 20-plus points in each of the previous three games, got off to a slow start and finished with 15 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Sydney Curry's 22 points and 10 rebounds paced Louisville (10-6, 4-2). Curry made 10 of 13 shots from the field. Dre Davis and Noah Locke both notched 13 points.
The Wolfpack have won seven of their last eight ACC road games. Shooting 12-for-25 on 3-pointers helped win this latest road test. They shot 56.1 percent overall from the field.
NC State's 16-point lead was trimmed to 59-53 with 7:42 to play.
NC State, which won for just the second time in its last eight games, didn't attempt a free throw until 4:13 remained in the game. The Wolfpack ended up 3-for-6 at the foul line.
Louisville seemed on the verge of making a charge several times down the stretch. The Wolfpack kept finding answers.
Hellems made a 3-pointer and another jumper as the gap grew to 71-59.
NC State, buoyed by a 16-0 run, led 35-27 at halftime despite a scoring drought of 5 1/2 minutes during one stretch early in the half. The Wolfpack made seven 3-pointers in the opening half, including four of them by Hellems.
Louisville starters combined for only six points in the first half.
The Wolfpack then scored the first eight points of the second half.
This was a rematch of Louisville's 73-68 road victory Dec. 4. The Wolfpack had a season-low six turnovers in that game, but had eight giveaways Wednesday. The Cardinals had 14 turnovers in the second meeting.
