Following a home victory against then-No. 20 Seton Hall, Marquette knocked off No. 11 Villanova on the road Wednesday.
Paul Scruggs had 13 points to lead Xavier (14-4, 4-3), which shot only 38.7 percent from the field.

Al Durham scored 12 points and Jared Bynum and Ed Croswell each added 10 as Providence (16-2, 6-1 Big East) won their third straight game. Coach Ed Cooley, in his 11th year at Providence, passed Dave Gavitt for second place on the all-time wins list at the school (210).
